Support this project
Who runs this
Whose Policy Is It is a one-person project. The hosting costs very little. The real cost is time: finding and checking sources for every policy in the deck, writing it up neutrally, building the site, and keeping an eye on whether the results stay trustworthy.
Donations
If this was worth a few minutes of your time, a donation helps keep it running and keeps it independent. There are no ads, no accounts, and no tracking on this site, and I’d like to keep it that way.
Donations aren't open yet.
Donations go through Stripe. Stripe’s page is outside this site and has its own privacy policy; nothing about your ratings is shared with it.
If donations aren’t enough
I’d rather fund this through donations. If they don’t cover what it takes to keep the project going, the fallback is licensing the aggregate figures to outside parties such as researchers, journalists, or other organizations. This is also described on the privacy page.
A few commitments about that, made before any sale has happened:
- Only the aggregates. What would be licensed is the same aggregate data you can already see on the comparison page: grouped by declared party, with sample sizes, filtered the way the methodology page describes. Individual submissions are never sold, shared, or released.
- Last resort. Data sales are a way to cover costs if donations fall short, not a business plan.
- Minimum sizes. Nothing will be sold until at least 1,000 completed submissions are in the data. Any group in what is sold, such as one party in one state, must be based on at least 100 submissions. Smaller groups are left out, with no exceptions.
- Public record. Every sale will be listed below, with its date, what was provided, and the kind of buyer: academic, news, commercial, or political.
- Names. A buyer is named whenever it agrees to be. A sale to a campaign, political party, or PAC is always named, whether or not the buyer agrees. If a buyer in that group won’t be named, there is no sale.
Data sales so far
None. As of this page’s last update, no data has been sold or licensed to anyone.
